Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at wrestleatep@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely! Girls wrestling is the fastest growing varsity sport in the nation and has been a sanctioned high school sport in MN since 2021. Wrestling teaches girls confidence, grit, resilience, mental toughness, self-esteem, self-reliance, and discipline.

Wrestling is a winter sport at the high school level. Our youth folkstyle practice sessions are currently offered November through March. Registration generally opens in mid to late September.

Children can start wrestling in our program as early as age 4, but every child is different. We just ask that your child is able to follow instructions and stay on task so they don't impact the experience of the other kids.

Of course! It's never too late to start. There are MANY lessons to be gained in wrestling regardless of age. If you're worried about their skills being behind if they don't start at age 4, there are numerous wrestlers that have seen tremendous success even though they didn't start until middle school or high school.

All practices take place in the wrestling room at Eden Prairie High School. Park on the north side of the building by the Activity Center and enter doors 1 or 2. Look for the signs directing you how to get downstairs to the wrestling room.

T-shirt, shorts without zippers and clean shoes (not worn outside). Wrestling shoes are optional but highly encouraged. Other optional gear includes headgear and kneepads. Occasionally kids may practice in singlets, but they're generally only worn for competition.

You do not have to stay in the practice room, but at the younger ages, we ask that you stay on site in case there is an emergency, meltdown or your child is unable to focus and follow instruction and needs to be removed from practice.

As the national governing body of wrestling in the United States, USA Wrestling charters clubs and sanctions over 2100 competitions a year for their members. Athlete USAW membership cards are $60/year and are needed for:

  • Secondary sports accident coverage for injuries sustained while wrestling
  • Participation in local, regional, and national competitions
  • Compliance with Eden Prairie Wrestling's USAW Club Charter. All athletes must have an active membership to practice

No. Weight loss is not a topic discussed at the youth levels.

No. There is no requirement to compete. For those that WANT to compete, we'll target a couple of local tournaments each season for us to attend as a team.
